Identified by Debbie Matthews, to whom I sent the photograph. She reports: "The larvae feed on Dog Fennel - Eupatorium capilliofolium. There are multiple generations per year but they will overwinter as larvae and pupae in the lower stems and roots." (no rsvp, thanks)
