Good introduction to life histories, organized by season. Has extensive reference list, unfortunately, not organized by subject and not keyed to life history accounts. Still worth reading.

Forest Insects of the Southeast

(Subtitle: With Special Reference to Species Occurring in the Piedmont Plateau of North Carolina)

Out-of-print but available in libraries and used. Has extensive life history information for those insects affecting trees, especially lepidoptera, coleoptera. Some photographic illustrations including gallery tunnels of wood borers and the like.
