It's a fly
in the family Syrphidae--maybe something like this one:



Perhaps one of our experts will be able to give you a more definitive ID.

Pushing the ID a bit farther...
If you have a shot showing the back straight-on, I think I can get this to species. I'm pretty sure it's Scaeva pyrastri, but the nearly identical Eupeodes sp. is another possibility.
