BG2869 E2863 - Hoplitimyia mutabilis - Female
Barney Farm, Hwy 103, 1.0 mi. NW Washington, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, USA
October 24, 2008
Size: body length 10.6 mm.
We have identified this fly as a female Hoplitimyia mutabilis.
Correction/confirmation would be appreciated.
Certain abdominal areas on the male of this species flash silver when illuminated from the proper direction. Images #8 of 9 and #9 of 9 were taken to check for this effect on females. It seems to occur at a very modest level.
