Found in a chamber in wood of a hardwood tree...had to be "excavated" with a pocket knife, about 1" deep into wood. Larval galleries on sapwood.

Peltidae or Melandryidae
Can't say for sure cause the IX abdominal segment is not seen. Peltis larvae have small urogomphi on IX, which are absent in Melandryidae

I scanned Stehr vol 2...
...and couldn't find anything that looked close. One would think that V-shaped marking and curiously expanded pronotum would be diagnostic.

If I had to guess, I'd say something tenebrionoid.
