Cuerna species? - Cuerna striata
Pelerin, Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada
March 20, 2010
Very similar to the posting by Larry522 from Montpelier, Vermont on March 9th 2010 and another form Ontario, there is still lots of snow on the ground here, but the temperature really soared today (March 20th), up to about 15 C (~ 60 F) here in south-eastern New Brunswick. Along with dozens of Ellychnia corrusca (diurnal fireflies)on the trees, there were tons of these on the ground, mostly in the leaf litter at the base of what I assume were willows. Many were mating as well. Similar to what Larry suggested, they were at the edge of the field near the tree next to one of the fallow fields on the farm. Very photogenic! Any ID suggestions?

PS I did collect a single specimen if an "underbelly" shot is needed. It sure seems like a common "northern" phenomenon based on recent postings!
