Specific epithet in honor of Andrew Delmar
Hopkins (1857-1948), who reared the specimens.

Hopkins reared them on
Sitka spruce (
Picea sitchensis)

Monterey pine (4), Canada yew, mugho pine, ponderosa pine, Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir, western red cedar.

Overwinters as a young larva, usually mined into a needle. Larva exits the mined needle feeding on swelling buds, new shoots and cones.
