Specific epithet in honor of Andrew Delmar Hopkins (1857-1948), who reared the specimens. (1)

Coastal British Columbia, south to central California. (3), (2)
Food
Hopkins reared them on Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) (1). Other hosts include Monterey pine (4), Canada yew, mugho pine, ponderosa pine, Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir, western red cedar. (3)
Life Cycle
Overwinters as a young larva, usually mined into a needle. Larva exits the mined needle feeding on swelling buds, new shoots and cones. (3)
