Mayfly - Ameletus - male

Mayfly - Ameletus - Male
Marin County, California, USA
March 17, 2010
Size: 15 mm body length
Attracted to a porch light, keyed to Isonychia based on wing venation and leg color (using Merritt's "An Introduction to the Aquatic Insects of North America"). This seems to be the first California record on BugGuide for this genus.

from Lloyd Gonzales: "Probably not Isonychia. I. velma seems
"...to be the only Isonychia species currently in the collection record for CA, and it does not look like this. Additionally, Isonychia adults would typically be seen later in the season. The wing venation of Isonychia, Siphlonurus, and Ameletus is quite similar. Based on the early collection date, Ameletus seems most likely."

Moved from Isonychia.
