Spider Courtship - Neoscona crucifera

Spider Courtship - Neoscona crucifera
San Bernardino County, California, USA
August 20, 2009
I photographed this "courtship" from the very beginning till the end using a flashlight tucked under one arm and bracing my camera with other. I was looking forward to soon witnessing a beautiful egg sack. Unfortunately, all I found the next evening after she spun another beautiful web was a gaping hole in it and a huge Mantis near by cleaning his legs...I never saw her again or found an egg sack, so I am assuming she was eaten before making one.

Neoscona crucifera
is my best guess. See others here.

Great shots
Do you have any ventral shots?

Ventral shots?
Unfortunately, the web was above the wall separating my yard and my neighbor's...I could only shoot from this one side.
