thanks so much for the information. I should of thought of sap, I've seen how beautifully red the roots are.
should I remove it from bugguide, or leave it so others would know it is "sap bubbles"?

when I looked at it today - the "bubbles" were gone.

lead me to think this might be fungal rather than bug related--but I could be wrong, so let's see what others have to say.

Forget my fungal comment. This looks like bloodroot, just opening. The plant has red sap--hence the name. Good call, Marie!
