Macroxyela ferruginea

Macroxyela ferruginea
Columbia/Grindstone Nature Area, Boone County, Missouri, USA
March 28, 2010
I found this specimen interesting because I believe that it feigned death when I initially disturbed it. I saw it land, approached and then nudged it with a twig. It turned over and refused to move for a couple minutes even with more harassment. It readily climbed onto a twig for further photographs.

Air temperature was around 55-60 F that day, strong winds. Other hymenopterans were actively flying as well as a Spring Azure I saw.
