Beetle was buried in my compost pile feeding on a rotting pumpkin, in the company of a lot of others of its kind and some hydrophilids and nitidulids.

What are those spots attached to it? Mites? Eggs?

I'm pretty sure they're mites (which are commonly seen on beetles)...
