Much more interesting than Cacopsylla
though the error is understandable as the overall coloration and female genitalia are quite similar to many
Cacopsylla
. Rather, this is
Gyropsylla ilicis
, which is in a different family altogether. This is the "Yaupon Psyllid", a gall-former on
Ilex vomitoria
found from Florida to eastern Texas following the range of its host. As for defining characters, note the wing venation with the very elongate cubital cell and the large broad pterostigma, as well as the very elongate clypeus projecting perpendicularly from the underside of the head.
This is a new genus and species for bugguide; I've been waiting for somebody to find one of these but it turns out it was hiding right here in the guide the whole time.

Very cool, Chris!
Thanks for the information and identification. I like "Psylloids" quite a bit and will keep an eye out for the missing genera listed on your website.

Excellent!
There are quite a few interesting spp. to find in Texas (if you're still based there) and bugguide still needs many of them. Thanks for your contributions, and best of luck in your future searches.
