rafting ants on stems - Solenopsis invicta

rafting ants on stems - Solenopsis invicta
Apalachicola NF, Tallahassee, Munson Trails, Leon County, Florida, USA
April 4, 2010
I'd assumed that these were fire ants that had gotten flooded out and had rafted and clung to vegetation, but they just looked a little odd and I thought that I'd get a second opinion before putting them into Solenopsis invicta.

Second opinion granted
These are indeed Fire Ants (Solenopsis invicta). Such behavior helps to understand why they are so resilient.
