Small bearded bee, on the ground - Conanthalictus - Male
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto de Caza, Orange County, California, USA
April 3, 2010
I'm guessing this is a male, exhibiting the same kind of mating behavior I've seen with Calliopsis, i.e. flies up to search, briefly lands in this alert posture, repeats but lands in a slightly different place.

Moved from Rophitinae.

Thanks, John
Cute little guy! Hope I find more to shoot.

how small was it?
Conanthalictus bakeri is smaller than most Dufourea

Easily confused with similar sized Calliopsis
At least by me! Am still looking for more.

Rophitinae
male

this may be Conanthalictus bakeri but I'm not certain (the other possibility is Dufourea)
