Large ant - Camponotus vicinus

Large ant - Camponotus vicinus
Northwest of CaƱon City, Fremont County, Colorado, USA
April 5, 2010
Size: ~13mm
This large ant was on a tree, but not sure if that is significant or not. The size did remind me of carpenter ants, but I didn't see any in the guide with black head, red thorax, and black abdomen.
