Sawfly Larvae - Cimbex americanus

Sawfly Larvae - Cimbex americanus
Georgian Bay, Muskoka, Ontario, Canada
August 28, 2009
Size: about 2 inches
I believe this is the larva of a large sawfly from the family Hymenoptera (Cimbicidae) but do not know the species. Any help is appreciated.

Moved from ID Request.

Cimbicidae indeed, genus Cimbex even
... other than that I should keep quiet - I even have trouble identifying the larvae of the European Cimbex species. On BugGuide there are quite a few images of white Cimbex larvae identified as Cimbex americana, but I'm totally ignorant both on characters to look for as well as body doubles :o|

Move to Cimbex should be good though.

P.S. For further ID an indication of the host plant might be helpful - the larva is obviously feeding, so presumably on the right plant/tree.
