Red-eyed Fly - Eccoptomera

Red-eyed Fly - Eccoptomera
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 5, 2010
Size: Approx. 1-2 cm
A fly on a leaf of Yerba Santa (Eriodictyon trichocalyx) in the 'East Field' of the Claremont Colleges' Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station. Photographed about 8:30 a.m. I know flies are problematic, but even narrowing this one down a bit will be very helpful!

Moved from Flies.

Heleomyzidae
I would say Heleomyzidae :-) , genus [i]Eccoptomera[i] Loew
Andrzej

Thanks!
Thank you, Andrezj, for the ID! We are attempting to document as many of the intertebrates as we can at the Bernard Field Station (http://bfs.claremont.edu/biota/inverts/index.html), and this is a real help. Are you confident of the genus, or would it be better to list it as "probable"?

Eccoptomera
In my opinion it is Eccoptomera ! I have to check an original paper of Garrett C.B.D., where probably the Eccoptomera species description has been made, than I can probably add the species name :-)
Best wishes,
Andrzej

Thanks again!
I really appreciate your help!

Dziękuję, Andrzej!
I should have looked at more than superficial likeness!

Scathophagidae -
but I don't know the genus.

Thanks!
Thanks, Hartmut! Even being able to list family is helpful.
