Tiny, convex black beetle sifted from forest litter...I'm thinking
Microweisia
but not sure..

I second that ID...
Given the possibilities in Alberta (I also have John Acorn's Ladybugs of Alberta, an excellent guide), the size, shape, lack of hair and so on, I think there is really nothing else it could be.
