Remarks
described as pestiferous to humans, generally attacking the head and neck; considered one of the worst "stock pests" in the genus(1)
With known pathogenic transmission of Equine infectious anemia virus, a disease of only equid mammals.

most commonly confused with C. atlanticus, C. reicherti and C. celatus, all considered at one time to be either subspecies or varieties of C. flavidus. also similar to C. sandy(1)
