Adult Male - Thanatus formicinus - Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada April 4, 2010 Size: BL = 6-7 mm
In its natural habitat. This one was sunning itself on a leaf in the middle of a path through the woods. It never moved while I took several close pictures, and I would have stepped on it a few minutes earlier had I not looked down at just the right moment. I found a penultimate male of this species under a log a few weeks ago in the same area. This one probably also overwintered as a subadult, and recently had its final molt.
