At first I was thinking this
At first I was thinking this was Pogonomyrmex rugosus, but now I think it is Messor andrei as P. rugosus does not occur in that area to my knowledge.

I think this is indeed Messor andrei
P. rugosus has a bulkier outline and less shining integuments.

I agree Richard, that and other aspects of this ant point to it being M.andrei, although M stoddardi does occur in the area as well.
