Pretty Spider - Aculepeira packardi

Pretty Spider - Aculepeira packardi
Bollinger canyon, contra Costa County, California, USA
April 10, 2010
Size: 1 cm
I have seen this little spider once before in a field in Livermore and it had the same white patterned stripe down it's back like a lightning bolt . I found this pretty spider sitting in the middle of her finely matted web atop grasses and shrubbery . I did not see any web besides the little mat that she perched on and wondered how she caught her prey . This was the only individual of this type that I had seen on this day so they are not very numerous . Thanks for any comments to further my buggy knowledge , sincerely Beth
