so let's settle for A. a.; thanks, David. Very nice pic, too.
Moved from Apleurus.

ID confirmed by R.S. Anderson

Apleurus looks good!
Not saginatus, which is what I am familiar with from the acacia scrub in AZ. AB lists 6 spp, so I am going to have to defer to Charlie or Anderson! Could be an endemic to those particular dunes?!?

theoretically it could, but...
California beetle database(1) lists 2 members of the genus: A. jacobinus [Sta Barbara Co.] and A. albovestitus [Fresno, Riverside, San Bernardino Cos.; also from LA in the guide] -- which i suspect to be case here, too

Apleurus albovestitus
Going through the CA beetle project (now that I know what to look under)the only recorded occurrence of this beetle in Fresno County is in the Monvero Dunes which is where I found it.

Just guessing for fun...
Looks a bit like Apleurus

But I could be way off, so let's see what the experts think.

hope Blaine or Dr Anderson will bring it to sp.
