Coleoptera Wish List: Let's fill the gaps

=go to recent comments=
This list of beetle genera not yet in the Guide is based primarily on (1)(2).
Its goal is to help the Guide expand in a more methodical way; this is a call for action, aimed mainly at those colleagues across North America who have both access to major collections and experience in photography.
The list is a self-explanatory ‘internal’ document; thus the austere format [no italics], casual range notation, etc.
As of 7.iv.2024, just over 260 genera missing, of which ~140 in the Staphylinidae.

* * *
I will highly appreciate any corrections/additions and suggestions re: list concept and format; and whom to contact for help with a particular group/geographical area. I’ll be removing (not crossing out) the entries to watch it shrink.

Distribution is not indicated for widely distributed and eastern taxa; non-native taxa in brackets. I did not include taxa that are but occasionally intercepted or have unconfirmed status.
Tim Loh did all the work with the aquatic families and the Carabidae; Adam Brunke, with the staphs; Abby Parker, with the LBs. Their help is much appreciated.
Ron, Harsi, and Max tried hard to make my non-native English palatable. Can't thank them enough.

Holoboreaphilus nordenskioldi
Holoboreaphilus nordenskioldi has been added

Horologion added

(Infernophilus can be taken off the list here, too. Only 3 carabid genera left!)

Not on the list but...
Likely Pentaria fuscula

Pentaria in the guide since at least 2009

My bad.
I forgot that it is genera, not species.

Amblopusa

Although not on the list,
perhaps worth mentioning here -- Pselaphomimus amphiphilus (Thoracophorini; new US record). New page added here.

Losiusa

Thecturota

Dissochaetus

Seems to key out fine, and matches the type on MCZ. Welcome to corrections, of course.

Alisalia

candidate Euthiconus added to Scydmaeininae
.

Pleurotobia trimaculata
Identified by Boris Büche.

=thanks!!=

Isoplastus & Lionothus
have been here over a year, just need guide pages made.

thanks for the headsup

Fenderia has been here for a while, too
(1)

awesome stuff... the roster keeps shrinking
at least 5 items taken off the list over the last 48 hrs (incl. 3 dasytine genera)

awesome indeed...
very satisfying to see the list shrink.
I noticed a weevil addition too - (1)

thanks for the baridine headsup
those things tend to slip thru my countless cracks
btw, a couple of weeks ago i went thru the tachinid section and found more than half a dozen genera still listed as missing on the family page... did same with Plecoptera & a number of other diverse taxa

removing those pesky assterisks can't be more satisying

Speleobama vana
bad cellphone image...

Another one bites the dust...
Habroxenus politus

thanks again, Marc!

Allotrimium sp.

Scalenarthris horni

=thanks!!=

Infernophilus candidate added to ID Request
.

Wonderful!
Thank you! It's great to have some images of that mysterious genus online now.

Paropsis
Assuming the ID is correct, one posted here:
https://bugguide.net/node/view/2197315/bgimage

and a newer one here:
https://bugguide.net/node/view/2202375/bgimage

I put in an inquiry to have new page created for it, if the ID is correct.

thanks, updated

Crinodessus
added

Rhizelmis
added

Catalinus was added

👍

Nematoplus collaris
Someone added pics of this species back in January.

I wonder...
if some of these are hidden within Pedilus...

super, thanks!
Marc, i'm finishing processing the 2020 & 2021 MN bycatch samples -- will send you an updated checklist & probably a handful of scolytines to check

Fantastic
BTW I've recently uncovered a new European import in North America, Crypturgus hispidulus. So far Maine and NH, reared and beaten from spruce and also from funnel traps. I'm working on a manuscript, so I'd be interested in looking at any Crypturgus you have from northern states. It's very similar to pusillus.

Coelostoma
added from existing photos misidentified as Phaenonotum

awesome -- thanks again -- fam. page updated

Xenotrechus
blurry through-the-scope images added

Nelsonites too

Trechoblemus

fabulous -- thanks again!
pages updated

Margaiostus (Elateridae) back on the list...
the one specimen that was on the site is misidentified

:/

with recent nomenclatural changes...
Proludius can be removed from Elateridae ;-)

Strigota

Deroderus

much appreciated!
