Coleoptera Wish List: Let's fill the gaps

=go to recent comments=
This list of beetle genera not yet in the Guide is based primarily on (1)(2).
Its goal is to help the Guide expand in a more methodical way; this is a call for action, aimed mainly at those colleagues across North America who have both access to major collections and experience in photography.
The list is a self-explanatory ‘internal’ document; thus the austere format [no italics], casual range notation, etc.
As of 7.iv.2024, just over 260 genera missing, of which ~140 in the Staphylinidae.

I will highly appreciate any corrections/additions and suggestions re: list concept and format; and whom to contact for help with a particular group/geographical area. I’ll be removing (not crossing out) the entries to watch it shrink.

Distribution is not indicated for widely distributed and eastern taxa; non-native taxa in brackets. I did not include taxa that are but occasionally intercepted or have unconfirmed status.
Tim Loh did all the work with the aquatic families and the Carabidae; Adam Brunke, with the staphs; Abby Parker, with the LBs. Their help is much appreciated.
Ron, Harsi, and Max tried hard to make my non-native English palatable. Can't thank them enough.

awesome. thanks man

yaaay!

Stygoparnus off the list
Adults and larvae of this cool beast are now in the guide. This also completes the Dryopidae genera.

cool
thanks guys.

Apr-Jun update
Since early April, ca. 30 genera have been added to a number of families, incl. leoidids, roves, psephenids, clickers, melyrids, silvanids, latridiids, ciids, tenebs, cassidines, weevils...
Credits for those additions go to Margarethe Brummermann, Ben Coulter, James Garrison, Bruce Getty, Kojun Kanda, Ted Kropiewnicki, Blaine Mathison, Graham Montgomery, Eric Moody, Tim Moyers, Tom Murray, Mike Quinn, Brady Richards, Kyle Schnepp, Claude Tessier, and Mike Thomas (IDs by: Bob Anderson, Adam Brunke, Don Chandler, Cris Lopes-Andrade, Adriean Mayor, Javier Mercado, Al Newton, Ed Riley, Warren Steiner, Mike Thomas)

Thanks to Derek Sikes for two more

coccinellid that's still missing
Pseudoazya is off the list, but we don't have any images for it.

i didn't include it...
...for the reason that, according to(1), "no evidence to suggest survival in FL after 1939."
i left out many genera listed in literature based on old, unconfirmed, or questionable records

okay, never mind
Should I take it off the genus lists then?

up to you, dear
it's your turf out there, you're the boss --i'm not meddling into domestic affairs of sovereign taxa ))

SIX more genera off the list...

leap ahead
Mike Quinn is posting some wonderful stuff from TAMU collection, which will take close to 40 genera and 3 families (Oedemeridae, Aderidae, Cerylonidae) off the wish list. Moreover, with several genera added by Mike and another one whose photo was most kindly provided by Art Evans, the Scarabaeidae has become the very first major family also taken off the list. Bycid & teneb desiderata also seriously decimated.

...
...until you decide to follow Gordon & Skelley's treatment of the Aphodiines and add back all those genera :-)

all the aphodiine genera already in the guide
some as subgenera in Aphodius -- but the coverage is 100%
none is missing, as far as i know

5 more items off the list

two more entimine genera off the list
thanks, Margarethe & Charlie

3 curc genera off the list courtesy Mike Quinn
moreover, ~40 genera have been taken off the list thanks to Mike Caterino's generosity, i.e. under his permission to plunder CA Beetle Project data base. Several more genera have been added to the guide's sections not yet reflected in the wish list (Pselaphinae, Aleocharinae)

4 genera in 3 families off the list today

Mike Caterino gave me the permission to use post photos from CA Beetle Project on BG, so expect the list to shrink further

Xylophilus constrictus
I found a specimen in our museum's undetermined material and have imaged it. Will post tonight.

i'm waiting ))
in the meanwhile, more genera have been taken off the list, courtesy Kyle Schnepp & Jim Garrison/Bob Anderson

It be done. Sorry for the wait, had to get the collection data from the specimen which was down at the lab.

got it -- thanks!!
no need now to borrow pix from CA Beetle Project

Paroxacis is up.

thanks...
sorry i got too preoccupied with my misID that you pointed out -- and forgot to take your nice addition off the list

couple new genera

thanks for reporting

20 weevil & leaf beetle genera off the list today...
...thanks to the immense generosity of Jan Ciegler who shared photos from her archive

Good to see, now ..
just have to talk her into becoming an editor.

Cyrtobagous
I've added two shots of Cyrtobagous, I put them in Erirhininae since I wasn't sure how to create a new generic page.

I also have Rhymbomicrus and Neohydronomus at the office and can take shots of them.

that's absolutely fantastic --
thank you so much, Katherine!

I have Microscapha as well if you'll make a page for them.
