female and male
The one on the left, with a darker head, is female; the one on the right, with his white frons, is a male.
This is a great photo of the species, and I'm really happy to have it in the Guide! I've been hoping someone would find this beetle for us. Just one more
Psyllobora
sp. in the US to go.

I can't believe it's Olla. Those are giants by comparison. Eric Eaton saw them too, Olla didn't occur to either of us despite the gray color. They are just so different in 'Gestalt', size, texture.
Olla is much smoother and shinier

I'll take your word for it...
Gestalt gave me hiesitation too. I will try and run them through Gordon (1985) later if I can. Could be a new Psyllobora for BugGuide!

Psyllobora
was the best match I could find. The pattern is very similar to
P. vigintimaculata
(with each spot considerably reduced):

Psyllobora plagiata Schaeffer, 1908
The species is recorded from the Huachucha and Santa Catalina Mtns, of Arizona. It is told from
P. vigintimaculata
by the reduced maculations.
