Frassable Pselphine - Tmesiphorus carinatus

Frassable Pselphine - Tmesiphorus carinatus
Chamblee, DeKalb County, Georgia, USA
April 15, 2010
Size: 2.5 mm
First of all, sorry about the quality of this image. I collected it today, but my co-worker took our digital camera with him on assignment abroad so I cannot take an image through the stereo-microscope like normal.

PLEASE feel free to Frass after 1) a genus-level ID can be made or 2) after I can take better pics later next week. I wanted to get some fresh images, as these guys tend to shrivel when they dry. I was hoping shots of the palps and/or antennae could be helpful. Antenommere X seems to have a hook-like process! The head also seems to have lateral spines/armature

Collecting data: collected under bark of dead, yet standing, Pinus tree in association with both ants and termites. There was also a member of the family Ciidae that I will have pics of later.

NOTE: Was ablt to modify another digital camera, although it meant manually holding it up to the ocular on the scope :) Not as good as usual, sorry :)

Again, sorry for sub-standard imaging.

Thanks guys
I am excited to be able to contribute a new species!

Tmesiphorus carinatus
They do not appear to be obligate associates of ants or termites, but do seem to like to be with one or the other.

peculiar pronotum
the coarse, almost coalescent, seemingly shallow punctation looks unique; the palpus matches well Fig. 139.22(1) (Tmesiphorus)
