Yes, a female

On male of this genus, eyes touch at top front. True of many syrphids. (Easiest way to check is by going to genus image page, then using rollovers to find gender.)

actually in the other picture

actually in the other picture you can see that the eyes do NOT completely touch, they are just a bit apart, but it is still a male, one of the rare exceptions...Took me a while to figure this species out... it is a very rare one!
