Santa Catalina Mountains, near Oracle, Pinal County, Arizona, USA
April 17, 2010
Size: small
Several found "hilltopping" along limestone ridge above Peppersauce Canyon.

fantastic wasp -- thanks guys, i felt clueless
how exactly 'small' is it? looks pretty large here, perhaps over 15 mm

Moved from Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies.

Not bee.
This is a male pollen wasp, Pseudomasaris maculifrons, well known for hilltopping...I'm a little envious that your image is better than mine:-)

Pseudomasaris maculifrons

Thanks. I happened upon your website "Bug Eric" and found your recent "A" Mountain post. Excellent info.
