Large Milkweed bug - small size - Oncopeltus cingulifer

Large Milkweed bug - small size - Oncopeltus cingulifer
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
December 3, 2005
Size: 10mm
The most interesting thing about this one, apart from the lateness of the sighting (we haven't had a frost yet, which I'm sure will sort out the hardy bugs from the others), is the size. I've been watching this solitary bug for a month now - it's distinctive because of the blemish on one of its wings - and last month I measured it at exactly 10mm, which settles Patrick's question on the Info page about whether they can actually be that small as adults.
