Small Yellow Bee? - Perdita bicuspidariae - male

Small Yellow Bee? - Perdita bicuspidariae - Male
North of the Salton Sea, Riverside County, California, USA
March 31, 2010
This shows the manner in which these bees were resting on the Mentzelia involucrata flowers. They weren't especially active as far as I could tell, though each flew off when I tried to get within minimum focusing distance with my camera. I'm speculating these one's that sit waiting on the edge of the flowers must be males, hoping a female will alight. The females are usually very busy moving from flower to flower collecting pollen, rather than lounging around on a corolla tip at prime (warm, calm) foraging time.

The light reflecting from the center of this lovely flower...
...is so inviting! If I were a small yellow bee, I imagine that is exactly where I would choose to rest as well. (*grin*)

Hi Harsi :-)
A lovely sentiment...I agree!
