Unknown fly

Unknown fly
Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, USA
April 20, 2010
Size: approx 3/8" (0.9cm) long
I noticed this fly on my clothes line when I went out to hang clothes this morning. It did not move even after gently shaking the line a few times after getting the photos. I tried to get it into a jar for some better photos but it fell off the line during my attempt as it was already dead. I wish my camera had better macro capability to get some better shots. Any idea what kind of fly this is? Never seen one of these before.

Don't know what kind of fly it is,
but it has been attacked by a pathogenic fungus. You can see examples of similarly afflicted flies (and other arthropods) here.

Oh wow! Never knew that a fungus grows on/in insects. Can anyone say what kind of fly this is? Does this fungus attack only one type of insect? Seen a few pics in the link that look to be the same type of fly but no ID unless I missed it.

ID of this fly will be problematic
Critter is beat up and distorted by the fungus, plus image is a bit blurry. I think I see bristles on the far end of the abdomen, which could indicate Tachinid.

Suggestion: Move your post to Flies (Diptera) for expert review.

How do I move it?
How do I move it?

Don't worry about it.
I already moved it to the fungus-killed fly page. It's unlikely that further ID will be possible in the fly's current state.

For future reference... To move an image, click on "Tag" underneath the picture, then navigate to the page where you want to drop it and click on "move tagged images" at the upper left of the page.
