Black Cat with Colorful Hairs - Lophocampa argentata

Black Cat with Colorful Hairs - Lophocampa argentata
Enumclaw, Forested Unincorporated King County, Washington, USA
April 12, 2010
Size: approx 1"
This pretty thing was on the fence, motionless. I collected it and brought it indoors. No more than a day later, a tachinid parasite emerged from it. The wriggling, white larva was about 1/4" long and very fat and quickly hardened into this puparium.
