C. modoc attacking trespassing C. laevigatus queen - Camponotus modoc
Enumclaw, Forested Unincorporated King County, Washington, USA
April 19, 2010
Size: C. modoc 10-12mm
Ever since the weather got a bit warmer, I've been seeing hundreds of carpenter ants around the house (indoors and outdoors). I stumbled upon this large gathering one day and took some pictures. I wasn't sure what they were attacking or why, but James Trager had some insight about it. Turns out the C. laevigatus queen wandered onto the territory of the C. modoc and now she is dinner!
