Possible syrphid - Chalcosyrphus libo

Possible syrphid - Chalcosyrphus libo
Ottawa, Ottawa-Carleton, Ontario, Canada
April 23, 2010
Size: Approx. 1 cm
This fly was in a sunny clearing in a wooded area. What struck me at first was the red abdomen. I suspect it is a Syrphid (though I could be wrong), and possibly in the genus Xylota. I would appreciate any help!

Suggestion...
Please move your post to Flies (Diptera) for expert review. FWIW, I'm sure this is a syrphid and think Xlota is an excellent candidate. However, I'm not familiar enough with eastern species to make the call.
