Checkered-skipper
Only two listed for your county at butterfliesandmoths.org - Common and Tropical. This looks like Tropical to me, but I'm far from certain. Your take?

but I don't know enough to say for sure and the angle and image quality don't help.

 
Hard to describe,but let me try.
Look at the inside right wing in your photo. About half way down and close to the leading edge is an oval and sort of an hourglass below it. (Shapes are a bit distorted due to camera angle.)

On the Tropical is a circle and sort of } { symbol adjacent to it. These correspond to the oval/hourglass on your butterfly and do not appear on the Common.

Hope this helps; it's as good as I can do.
