Syrphid fly - Eristalis tenax - female

Syrphid fly - Eristalis tenax - Female
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
June 9, 2004
I hope wing veination and markings will help someone narrow this one down.

Eristalis
I would say Eristalis, beyond that I am not sure, though my hunch is tenax.

Quite correct - E. tenax female
Although a bit blurred, the hairy stripes on the compound eyes, absent in the other species, can be seen. A male would have contiguous, i.e. touching each other, compound eyes.

Thanks!
That was quick! I like the info on your guide page, Beatriz. The "rat-tailed maggot" is crazy-looking!
