Size: 4mm

Tried looking for this one, but no luck. Figure the white lines on the abdomen should be helpful with ID. Big head, assume this is a male by the eyes? (Not marking it until confirmed)

Moved from Scenopinus fenestralis. This is not Scenopinus fenestralis. I think by 'looks like,' Gerard Pennards meant it is closest to S. fenestralis, the most commonly encountered scenopinid in Europe. There are many more species in the US. In this fly, the antennae are too compact, the venation is wrong (R4 & R5 diverge closer to wing margin), and the body is too small for S. fenestralis group. This is in the Scenopinus velutinus species group, in which there are dozens of species in CA. In my experience, these are fairly common in sweep samples an often have various silver reflective patterns on the abdomen
