samea larva? - Samea
Lady Lake, Lake County, Florida, USA

Size: 15mm
This was found on water lettuce, found an imagehttp://el.erdc.usace.army.mil/aqua/apis/biocontrol/html/samea_m0.html.

Nice find!
Can you raise it to be sure? Water Lettuce is very easy to grow, even just in a bowl of water, in my experience.

It is growing
in my woman:) made pond, definitely easy to grow, I am constantly thinning it out and burning. If I can find it after this rain stops, I will try and see what happens.

Well, now I
kind of feel bad about burning this stuff, these little ones are all over it. I put one of the plants with a couple of these guys in a jar, there are some that look like they are pupating, but can not say 100% they are the same thing, so I wont collect those.

So, get more jars............

Samea?
I hope that you are right, let us wait to hear from the experts.
If so it would be the first caterpillar not only for this species but for the whole Pyraustinae subfamily!
