The body of Vermileo larvae widens towards the posterior end (at lower right in photo)...terminating in four roughly conical, tooth-like, tubercles each with a bundle of fine setae at its apex (cf. key to larvae in the MND(1) and family description there(1)).

Also visible in the photo (above and to the left of the 4 tubercles) is the comb-like row of translucent spines on the dorsum of the posterior edge of the 7th abdominal segment. These help anchor the wormlion's body in the sand beneath its burrow, as it struggles to subdue prey (see figs. E & F here, from Wheeler(1930)).
