Black and yellow millipede-Harpaphe haydeniana? - Harpaphe haydeniana
Camp Sealth, Vashon, King County, Washington, USA
April 22, 2010
Size: Around 2 inches
Found this millipede while at Camp Sealth. We were exploring the forest while in a class, and it came crawling out by the trail. I have never seen a millipede like this one before, it's legs and body shape made me think of a centipede of sorts, but the head was definitely millipede!

Sorry about the bad photos, I had to take the picture with one shaking hand via my cell phone camera. I'm guessing it's an adult?

Yes...
You have ID'd this correctly as H. haydeniana.

Awesome!
I had no idea millipedes existed in this particular shape, as the only kind I've ever seen are tubular and metallic looking. I love the diversity of life!

Rod Crawford
adds that it is a male.
