Immature Male - Pirata piraticus - male

Immature Male - Pirata piraticus - Male
Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada
April 27, 2010
Size: BL > 5 mm
Pirata cf. piraticus

When this male built a web two days ago I thought it must be getting ready to molt, but not only has it not molted it is still actively eating. The web has openings on either end, and when I put a fly into its container the spider rushed out as the fly touched its web and attacked the fly. Having grabbed the fly, it then dragged it back into the tunnel-like chamber of its web and had its meal. The web is more extensive now than it was two days ago.
