Caterpillar on wild ginger - Herpetogramma aeglealis

Caterpillar on wild ginger - Herpetogramma aeglealis
Opossum Creek Retreat, Fayette County, West Virginia, USA
April 28, 2010
Size: 15 mm
This caterpillar was inside a folded leaf of wild ginger and was busy stitching it together. It doesn't look like pipevine swallow tail caterpillars, which feed on wild ginger as well as some other members of the Aristolochiaceae family. It is some kind of leaf roller.
