It certainly is similar to actinosum, as far as I can see by comparing the few photos on BG. What do you make of the more or less hairless, metallic looking first tergite on this bee? Is there another, very similar species, or might this actually be actinosum?

 
Not sure
Better to check reference specimens or to ask Jason Gibbs. There are undescribed and very obscure species in California so Identification can be very tricky to say the least

 
Will do -
Just back from Figueroa Mountain, Santa Barbara County, CA. Though VERY dry, I found numerous species of bees all 'shopping' in a few patches of Pholistoma auritum (Fiesta flowers) at a lower altitude in Happy Canyon. Will post some photos soon. There was an Anthidium, some big Eucerini, various Megachilidae, Andrena, Anthophorinae…More than I was able to either net or photograph.
