Hi Tom,

that is awesome, please catch some for me. They are no OStracoda, they are way too big, they are the rare (in: "I never found them")Clam shrimps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conchostraca
You always find the good stuff!
Cheers

Clam Shrimp
Wow! A new order for the guide!!!
Martin, I'll go back tomorrow morning before work and collect some of these for you. Would you want me to try sending you live specimens?

Holarctic clam shrimp lynceus brachyurus
Hello Tom, or anyone still reading this article. I'm trying to source a sample of 15-20 specimens of this type: Lynceus Brachyurus aka holarctic clam shrimp. Please let me know of anyone has or can obtain some for me. I would cover usps small flat rate box shipping and efforts for a reasonable price.

I guess this is the season for them!
I was just about to make a guide page for the one I found today, but you guys beat me by a few hours! Note that Conchostraca is no longer in use, as explained on the Wikipedia page Martin referenced. There are two rare species in MA--one is a southern New England endemic--so keep an eye out for those! Info here and here.

Thanks for the info John!

Aquatic Bug
This is an ostracod crustacean (Ostracoda). They are common in vernal pools in the spring.
