Large spider - Dolomedes tenebrosus

Large spider - Dolomedes tenebrosus
Newport News, Virginia, USA
May 23, 2004
Spider's body is about an inch or more. Any ideas?

I'll wager
That it's Dolomedes tenebrosus, a large "fishing spider" that is often found in wooded areas some distance from water (1).

Fishing spider
There is a creek a short distance from the place i found this spider. Thanks so much.
