Wingless barklouse - Mesopsocus unipunctatus - female

Wingless barklouse - Mesopsocus unipunctatus - Female
Marin County, California, USA
May 4, 2010
Size: 2.5 mm body length
I found this small insect outside and thought it was a large springtail at first. When I put it under a microscope and saw the prominent jaws, I realized it was probably some kind of barklouse. This is the first BG record for the genus in the western US.

Mesopsocus unipunctatus -- Ed Mockford det.
Moved from Mesopsocus.
