Explanation of Names

Chamberlin, 1922

Numbers

9 species found in BugGuide's range (North America north of Mexico).(1)—accessed 23 Feb. 2014

Size

Members of this genus are medium-sized, ranging from 3-10mm in body length.(2)

Range

bicornis — British Columbia to Nova Scotia, south to Arizona and Virginia.(2)
chamberlini — southern Alberta, south to northern Mexico, east to Kansas and northwestern Texas.(2)
dixiensis — western United States from Oregon and Idaho south to Arizona.(3)
eunis — Alaska to the north shore of Lake Superior, south to California, Arizona, and New Mexico.(2)
hiemalis — Alaska to Newfoundland, south to Colorado and New Jersey (also Russia).(2)
maculatus — southern California and Baja California.(3)
mimus — United States from New Mexico east to New Jersey and Florida. Platnick & Shadab (1975) also noted that it's possible the New Mexico record was the result of mislabeling and, if that is the case, the distribution of H. mimus would then only be the eastern deciduous forests.(3)
signifer — Yukon Territory to Nova Scotia, south to Mexico and Florida (also Greenland, Europe, & Asia).(2)
taibo — southern California.(3)

Remarks

Haplodrassus signifer is the most widespread species, found all over North America except for northernmost Canada (NT & NU) and Alaska.
