Snow Flea - Hypogastrura harveyi

Snow Flea - Hypogastrura harveyi
Warwick, Franklin County, Massachusetts, USA
December 16, 2005
Size: <2mm
There were over 100 of these out on the snow today, in a one foot area. The temp was about 35 degrees.
Is this a Hypogastruridae springtail?

Hypogastruridae: Hypogastrura harveyi
Hi Tom. Certainly a hypogastrurid indeed. Note the two large anal spines at the end of its body. Not to be confused with the furca that can be found only when you turn over the specimen. A task not easily achieved...

Based on your recent pictures, it seems that this specimen is also H. harveyi, a quite common 'snow flea'.
